And are you willing to defend your position?

Subjectively, I chose NET because it has Depaul ranked higher.

I am not prepared to defend my position objectively.   Although I will say that I like the idea of capping the margin of victory or defeat at 10 because a great day or a terrible day still counts as just 1 win and 1 loss and wins and losses are what really matter.

I've learned to dislike KenPom. It's self-referential and so much of how "good" a team looks is based on where KenPom starts the team at the beginning of the season and much of how that is determined is essentially subjective.  In a closed system like that, where the pieces are lined up at the beginning is hugely important.

NET is better because efficiency is just one factor, and let's face it, efficiency doesn't tell you the whole story.  Let's just look at last year's Blue Demons team.  Here are KenPom's 4 factors on D for DePaul last year:

Effective FG%:   52.0   234 (in nation)
Turnover %:   20.2   72    (in nation)
Off. Reb. %:   28.1   148  (in nation)
FTA/FGA:           32.3   150  (in nation)

You look at those numbers and you see a fairly bad defensive team, which they really were, but somehow the adjusted defensive efficiency is highly respectable 49.  That simply doesn't make sense.

I commend LTD for being forthcoming in that he selected NCAA's NET rating because he cherry picks something that supports his position. Very Trump meets Rasmussen Polling. However, cannot let it pass that I find it a bit hypocritical to see people move off of KenPom, after multiple years are proclaiming it to be such an amazing measure. How many times over the past 3 years have we seen something like 'DePaul's DRat is up xx number of spots from last year'

I think the NET has work to be done to be more accurate, however, it is less flawed than KenPom, however, both suck in their own right.

Selected KenPom for this comparison but prefer Sonny Moore's rating if opening it up to other options.

Hayes-Healy Superstar: Yep Coach K is squeaky clean... he's the Joe Paterno of coll.... oh yeah.

BigJayStud: JLP will have to make a decision after next season. She should extend (Purnell) by one year with a very low buyout.
