Demons Abyss / Is DL fired at the end of this year?
« Last post by kman999 on December 31, 2018, 12:42:40 PM »
DL done after this year or does he get the JLP 5th year special like JW or OP?

JW supposedly got the secret extension, OP supposedly guaranteed 5 with the initial contract, I imagine DLís contract less lucrative than both, but yah never know at DePaul.

This season the odds of going 0-18 is a reality ,  this team is worse than last year.

Its extremely bizarre how a team can control games for 30-35 minutes and then get blown off the floor in the final 5-10 minutes.    It has to be a product of coaching.

It is because of this I want DL fired.    Yes, I know I have been a supporter of DL's, last year they seemed to be an improved team talent wise but couldn't get over the hump.  That not only continues to be a problem this year but has actually gotten worse against more mediocre teams.

I don't see this improving no matter who the talent is.... it is now a DL staple.

He gone.

The issue is if he goes who replaces him? Her reputation doesnít resonate well within the college basketball community despite how many superficial awards she wins. That limits the pool of potential candidates. Plus if sheís the one selecting....well we know her track record. As much as it pains me to watch him fail these kids there has to be wholesale change.

Both of you gentlemen are right, I feel bad for the kids and thatís why it pains me, at times, to root against this team (and I only do in hopes of wholesale changes). I like both Reed and Butz potential and was vocal last year as I thought Butz with time and development could be a very good or minimally a serviceable big man. Reed, love his motor and his aggressiveness but it hurts at times as he gets himself into foul trouble. Athleticism and his midrange game are his forte which suits a balanced team well.

That being said, I want the Laydown gone but only if she goes too. I cannot withstand another less then mediocre hire by her which would set us back another 3-5 yearís minimum. If their development needs to be sacrificial lambs to get her gone as well, then I am all for it. Otherwise whatís the point if heís gone. She will only replace him with him with Pete Gillen or Dave Odom or some other retread that the game has passed by. Those are the only people that would take the job under her. We will hire another desperation project if sheís left to her incompetent devices.

Agreed. Feel so bad for these kids. They are not being put in a position to be successful. Thatís on DL but also on JLP. They should both be removed immediately. They, of course, will continue their employment at this school until Ponsetto decides otherwise.

I do not hate this team. I look at them and see talented players who I sincerely feel bad for. I look at Butz and Reed and see how badly they are being managed. I would much prefer they have success at DePaul. I do hope that other people see that this will absolutely not happen with Dave Leitao as the coach.

Great work mrap... I think itís glaringly obvious that this is a decent team but has two ball dominant seniors who completely stink in crunch time.

Between max and Eli taking terrible shots (that always seem to lead to an easy run out for the other team) and DL not coaching them to take better shots this team has been a complete disaster when it counts.

If it werenít for Ra Bolton being a freshman chucker we wouldnít have beaten penn st either and would have lost that game just like the nu and bc games.

some things that are obvious:

-the program has no leadership on any level.  admin, coach, players.  no leadership in any facet (and it shows).  no program is being built, no culture has changed (any claims are just pure lipservice) and we cant say we are better today than the day OP was fired (wont say we are worse either, but not in a better place).  its year by year to keep their job
-DL was probably the worst possible hire that could have been made, and its setting the program back every day he is in charge.  Hate to say it, but the sooner he is fired the better.  Like firing him tomorrow isnt soon enough
-Love Max and Eli as people and they play hard, but lets be honest, they are bumslayers.  They are low IQ players who are out there to get theirs.  They need to be leaders, team guys and they arent.
-We agree that the usage of max and eli needs to go (way) down and gage, femi and reed needs to go up
- schedule was put together to save a job and try and sell "we are winning" to get fans into the arena.  i mean we are looking at 1500 per game of actual so there is no way depaul is net positive on arena investment as of now
