Demons Abyss / Re: Is Next Year’s Team Better or Worse than this Year’s?

I guess I should clarify with whatever metric YOU THE VOTER subscribe to primarily/individually.

Some on here are kenpom some are BE standings, most are some combination of everything.

Whatever suits you, do you believe next year’s team is better than what we just saw?

It is a loaded question, because you can say eye test they are better, but record is worse.

Whatever metric, ranking, win loss total, eye test suits you ...

I don’t have confidence that next year’s team is better and that’s the primary reason I voted no to Dave coaching next year.

There is some semblance of progress, we’ve been at the bottom of the barrel for so long it’s easy to forget how bad we were night in night out the last 11 years; but if this progress is not sustainable, tough to justify keeping the coach.

If we break .500 next year with another solid class for 2020, perhaps the tune starts to change.

ok gents, each team has 1 or 2 games left.  here is how i think it will end and what the final standings will be:

games left:

Marquette: @SHU, vs GTown  projected finish 2-0, final BE record of 14-4
Nova: @SHU, projected finish 1-0 final BE record of 14-4
Xavier: @Butler, vs SJU.  1-1 projected finish.  Final BE Record of 9-9
Georgetown: @Depaul, @ Marquette.  0-2 projected finish.  Final BE Record of 8-10
St. John: @Xavier.  0-1 projected finish.  Final BE record of 8-10
Seton Hall: vs marquette, vs nova.  0-2 projected finish.  Final BE record of 7-11
Creighton: vs Prov, vs Depaul.  2-0 projected finish.  Final BE record of 9-9
Providence: @Creighton, vs Butler  1-1 projected finish. Final BE record of 7-11
Depaul: v Gtown, @creighton.  1-1 projected finish.  Final BE record of 7-11
Butler: vs Xavier @ prov. 1-1 projected finish.  Final BE record of 7-11

So here are my projected final standings.  I am not sure how the tie breakers will work:

1. Marquette
2. Nova
3. Xavier
4. Creighton
5. SJU
6. Georgetown
7. Butler
8. Depaul
9. SHU
10. Providence

no he shouldnt.  to me this seasons record is fools gold.  i haven seen anyhting to show me that the program as a whole is steadily progressing in the right direction.

whats our record is the non con SOS is 150 instead of 350?  progress was manufactured and if you take a step back, there hasnt been as much made as you are being told to believe.  the class (any recruiting class) especially in year 5, isnt a reason to keep someone

I agree he should go but with the incoming class and JLP staying he will be back

I said NO.  But, my opinion doesn't count.  He'll be here as long as JLP is.

On his record as a head coach -  no way, no how.
But until someone competent is in place to hire a head coach we will have to suffer with DL

Echoing Dive, there has no progress being made in fact you can say this year the team regressed. They got Gage “back”, had Reed emerge better than anyone could’ve anticipated, had Femi come in and showed he belonged and then steady improvement from Butz. I think the latter 3 more than make up for the loss of Maric and McCallum and then your 2 “best” players were coming back for their final years another experienced in college basketball. I think it’s only fair we should’ve expected better regardless if JCL played a significant amount or not. And quite frankly, his early results against weak competition were not inspiring.

Plus this wasn’t a rebuild but another last place / quadrant finish which is all that’s been accomplished since Laydown got here.
