DePaul lands it's first 2010 commitment

The DePaul Blue Demons were able to land the services of Washington D.C. guard Brandon Young, who offered up his verbal commitment on an official visit to Lincoln Park. Young, a six-foot-three, one hundred eighty pound point guard from Friendship Collegiate High School, is the Blue Demons first commitment for the 2010 class. This past summer, Young was a part of the very successful Team Takeover squad.

Freeland to enroll in Winter - DePaul adds walk-ons

CHICAGO - The DePaul men's basketball program has added four student-athletes as walk-on's to the 2009-10 roster while incoming freshman Tony Freeland will enroll in the Winter Quarter at DePaul while he awaits academic clearance from the NCAA.

The Los Angeles native is scheduled to join the Blue Demons after averaging 21.1 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots during his senior season at Fremont High School. Freeland, a 6'6", 200-lb. forward, was recently named one of the top 300 players in the Class of 2009 by Athlon Sports.

DePaul names Tom Kleinschmidt to Director Basketball Operations position

CHICAGO - DePaul University head basketball coach Jerry Wainwright announced today that Tom Kleinschmidt has been named Director of Basketball Operations. Kleinschmidt was an intern last season with the men's basketball program while completing his degree at DePaul.

"Tom joined our program last season while finishing up his undergraduate coursework and now he'll really be able to be part of our day-to-day operations," said Wainwright. "His career at DePaul speaks for itself and we're looking forward to him bringing his trademark intensity and focus to our players as member of our program."

Non-Conference Schedule Announced

The DePaul Blue Demons will open their 2009-10 season at home, as they welcome the Columbia Lions to Allstate Arena on November 17th. The Blue Demons will next head to the U.S Virgin Islands, where they will take on Northern Iowa on November 20th, as a part of the Paradise Jam. Depending on who wins in this game, as well as other games, the Blue Demons will face either Tennessee or East Carolina on the 21st or 22nd of November. They will close out their time at the Paradise Jam by playing Boston College, Purdue, Saint Joseph's or South Dakota State on November 23rd.

Big East announces DePaul's Home/Away conference matchups

The DePaul Blue Demons, fresh off an 0-18 conference season, learned today which conference foes it will be facing at home and what their conference road schedule will look like. As standard, the Blue Demons will face three teams twice in conference, in a home/away series. The Blue Demons lucked out in getting Marquette, St. John's and Rutgers as their home/away setup. Marquette is coming off a 12-6 conference record, but will be without Dominic James, Jerel McNeal and Wesley Matthews, who all completed their eligibility. St. John's was 6-12 while Rutgers finished 15 (ahead of the Blue Demons) at 2-16).

 

Overall, the Blue Demons will host the following teams at Allstate Arena; Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Providence, Rutgers, St. John's, South Florida, Syracuse and West Virginia. Their road portion consists of Cincinnati, Connecticut, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova.
