The DePaul Blue Demons conference season has not gone all too well, as they are still seeking their first conference win after five unsuccessful tries thus far. One of those unsuccessful attempts came against South Florida, who took the Blue Demons to the whipping shed by a score of 80-58. In their first meeting, the Blue Demons were led by the performance of sophomore Mac Koshwal, who had 18 points and eight rebounds in the defeat. Junior guard Will Walker has shrugged off an abysmal non-conference segment on the season, as he is averaging 13.6 points per game on 43.9% shooting. He has finally got his three point shot back, making thirteen of thirty attempts over the Blue Demons five conference games. The South Florida Bulls have yet to taste a Big East victory since their road win against DePaul, as they lost to Pitt and West Virginia, both on the road. In their first meeting against the Blue Demons, the Bulls were paced by sophomore Dominique Jones’ twenty-two points, as well as great point guard play from Chris Howard, who dished out ten assists. Another big factor in the Bulls victory was a +18 rebounding advantage against the Blue Demons, as they pulled down thirty-nine rebounds to DePaul’s twenty-one

The DePaul Blue Demons take on the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday afternoon at the Allstate Arena. The Blue Demons (8-9, 0-4 in conference) enter the game looking for their first Big East victory of the season. Their latest Big East defeat, a decisive 22 point loss to the South Florida Bulls, was certainly tough to take in for the fans that had to watch. Mac Koshwal led the Blue Demons with 18 points, and Will Walker chipped in with 17 of his own. The Bearcats (11-6, 1-3 in conference) are coming off their first conference victory, a 71-59 final against Rutgers on Wednesday night. Deonta Vaughn scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The Bearcats have had a great deal of success against DePaul in the all-time series, owning a 29-14 advantage. However, DePaul won their last meeting a year ago in Cincinnati by the score of 60-54. That win ended a long road losing streak against Cincinnati.

The DePaul Blue Demons are still looking to gain their first victory in the Big East Conference for the 2008-09 season, as they have dropped their previous three attempts. Their last defeat came at the hands of the Syracuse Orange, who glided to a 85-68 victory at the Carrier Dome. DePaul’s leading scorer in the contest was sophomore Dar Tucker, who shot eight of nineteen from the floor on his way to an eighteen point performance. Fellow sophomore Mac Koshwal struggled from the floor, making just four of his fourteen attempts, but put in solid work on the glass, as he tallied thirteen rebounds. Junior guard Will Walker broke out of what seemed to be a season long three-point shooting slump, as he made three of his six attempts. Much like the Blue Demons, the Bulls are seeking their first W in Big East play, as they have been unsuccessful in their prior two attempts, with losses to Syracuse and Louisville. Their latest defeat was against the Cardinals, where they were bested by a score of 71-57. The Bulls leading scorer Dominque Jones had a miserable night against Louisville’s defense, making a single shot on ten attempts. Via free throws, he was able to get into double digits for points though, leading the team, along with Augustus Gilchrest with eleven points.

The DePaul Blue Demons begin 2009 with a road trip to Providence, Rhode Island as they battle the Providence Friars in a Big East conference game. The Blue Demons are coming off a New Years Eve conference loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a score of 92-82. Sophomores Mac Koshwal and Dar Tucker lead the Blue Demons, with twenty-four and twenty-two points respectfully, but the inability to properly defend was a key component in the defeat. The Friars fended off an early charge from the St. John’s Red Storm, and glided to a 75-52 home victory. It was a balanced effort for the Friars, as four scored in double digits, lead by big man Randall Hanke’s seventeen points. Providence won the last match-up between the two, with a 79-65 victory at Providence. Hanke was the leading scorer in this contest, with twenty-one points. DePaul was led by Draelon Burns who had seventeen in the defeat.
